Howard Salmon, PhD, DABR

Founder, Veritas Medical Physics Consulting

Medical device companies develop technologies for clinical environments they can only partially see. Veritas Medical Physics Consulting exists to close that gap.

Dr. Salmon is a board-certified medical physicist and Radiation Safety Officer with more than 20 years of active clinical experience at a large Indianapolis-area health system. His practice spans the full breadth of modern radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, and imaging technologies. He works daily with the equipment, workflows, departments, and regulatory constraints that technology developers are designing for.

That proximity is what Veritas offers. Dr. Salmon advises medical device companies and technology developers across the full arc of a product's life — from early development and clinical positioning through regulatory strategy, market implementation, and adoption. He brings the clinical physics perspective that engineering and commercial teams typically lack access to: what will and won't work in a real department, how clinicians and physicists will actually interact with a product, and where the assumptions embedded in a design diverge from practice on the ground.

This kind of independent clinical expertise is not easy to access. It typically sits inside large academic medical centers, behind committee structures, institutional conflicts, and timelines that bear no relationship to a development or launch cycle. Veritas makes it available without the friction.

Expertise

How We Work With You

From concept through clinical deployment — physics expertise at every stage of product development.

Speaking, Training & Content

Clinical physics education for vendor teams, webinar content, conference presentations, and technical writing. Help your team communicate with physicists in language that physicists trust.

Clinical Physics Advisory

Embedded physics expertise for product development teams. Dr. Salmon provides ongoing advisory support to help vendors design solutions that reflect how clinical physics departments actually work — before those assumptions get built into the product.

Clinical Validation & Protocol Development

Design and execution of clinical validation studies for new and existing technologies. Includes protocol development, data collection framework, analysis, and documentation suitable for regulatory submission or peer review.

Product Evaluation & Benchmarking

Independent evaluation of how a technology performs against current clinical workflows, competing approaches, and established standards. Useful for product development, marketing claims support, and pre-submission regulatory strategy.

Regulatory & Standards Strategy

Navigation of NRC, FDA 510(k), and relevant AAPM/IEC standards as they apply to radiation therapy technology. Dr. Salmon helps development teams understand the regulatory landscape early — when it's still possible to design around it.

Why Veritas

What We Bring to Your Development Team

Clinical Reality Check

Technology that looks good on paper fails in clinical environments for predictable reasons. Dr. Salmon provides the clinical reality check that catches those failure modes early — during development, not during beta.

Independent & Unaffiliated

No OEM partnerships, no preferred vendor relationships. Veritas provides honest evaluation and advisory support unconstrained by commercial entanglements — the kind of independence that makes our assessments credible to clinical customers.

Regulatory Fluency

Active RSO practice means current, working knowledge of NRC and Agreement State requirements — not periodic review. That fluency translates directly into better regulatory strategy for products operating in this space.
